To maintain healthy, attractive-looking skin, we recommend a simple, daily
skin care routine. This routine consists of: 1) cleansing, 2) exfoliating
(once every 2-4 days), 3) pH Balancing, 4) renewal (if you have fine lines
or wrinkles), 5) moisturizing, and 6) repair.
1. CLEANSE
Use a non-detergent, non-drying skin cleanser.
Use cleansers with skin conditioners and a selection of botanicals that help to soothe the skin.
Apply the cleanser to the hands, lather up slightly, then gently rub the skin in a circular motion, then rinse off thoroughly with water.
To remove makeup around the eyes, apply cleanser directly to a tissue or face towel, then gently rub off.
Avoid bar soaps, which lather up nicely, and are effective at lifting off debris, impurities, and the skin's natural oils, but at the expense of
leaving the skin bone-dry, without any natural protection from the elements.
Prolonged use of bar soaps can contribute to premature aging and wrinkling.
Avoid cleansers containing alcohol, artificial colors, and artificial
perfumes.
2. EXFOLIATE
To polish off dead or dying skin cells and reveal fresh new cells
underneath, an exfoliant or scrub should be applied every 2 to 4 days,
depending your skin's sensitivity.
Massage vigorously with fingertips, avoiding the eye area. Rinse
thoroughly with water or a washcloth.
Look for exfoliants containing moisturizers to counteract the temporary drying effect of exfoliating.
Avoid exfoliants containing crushed nut shells, which have tiny sharp
edges that can cause microscopic cuts in the skin's surface and capillaries.
3. BALANCE
A good balancer or toner will sweep away traces of debris and cleanser, leave the skin refreshed and pH balanced, and all ready for moisturization.
Use a toner that contains natural astringents to close the pores, without alcohol or harsh chemicals.
Use a toner that contains a selection of natural herbal ingredients that will help soothe and condition the skin.
Apply after cleansing or exfoliating and before moisturizer with hands or cotton pad. Allow to dry before applying moisturizer.
Avoid toners containing alcohol, artificial scents, or artificial colors, which can cause irritation.
4. RENEW
To reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, use a hydroxy acid
product with a strength of around 5%.
Before use, try on the inner arm or neck to see if redness or irritation
occurs. If so, discontinue use.
A slight burning or tingling sensation without redness or irritation is normal.
Apply small amount to areas of face in need of special attention due to lack of smoothness or appearance of fine lines or wrinkles. Apply before
moisturizer or wrinkle cream.
5. MOISTURE
Use a high-quality moisturizer that contains emollients (to smooth the
skin) and humectants (to retain moisture in the skin) without the excessive
use of oils that can make the skin look and feel greasy.
Use a moisturizer that concentrates on replacing the natural oils and
moisture in the skin and promotes healthy, attractive-looking skin.
Use a moisturizer that fits your skin type (dry, oily, or combination) and
the weather (cold, dry weather requires a richer moisturizing formula).
Some natural herbal ingredients in moisturizers can contribute to the
skin's smoothness and softness.
Moisturizers containing liposomes that prolong the effects of moisturizing
can be more effective.
6. REPAIR
Also known as an eye cream, night cream, wrinkle cream, this is a richer,
heavier moisturizer. It is usually used at night because it has an oilier
look and feel, but can also be used in areas in need of special attention
during the day.
Use a repair cream that does not rely strictly on oils for its
moisturizing effects.
Pat cream around the areas of the eyes, mouth, and neck which are
susceptible to lines and wrinkles. When applying, avoid pulling the delicate
skin around these areas, as this can lead stretching and wrinkling.
Certain natural herbal ingredients in repair creams can enhance their
effectiveness.
